Message From the President

Happy New Year to all!!

2019 is here and so is our new Governor and many new state legislators, making CSP's upcoming Legislative Day and Forum a must attend event if you are planning on continuing to do business in our great state.

Monday Evening, March 18th Legislative Forum at Downtown and Vine, Sacramento
Tuesday, March 19th CSP 2019 Legislative Day - CA State Capitol

Our legislature went into session on January 7th . In the first couple days of the session 175 Assembly Bills and 70 Senate Bills were introduced. It is expected by the February 22nddeadline more than 1500 new bills will be introduced.

Do we expect many of the bills to be supportive of the Staffing Industry? Unfortunately, No. History has shown that many of the proposed bills will directly attack our industry and our clients. For example, the following two bills relating to workplace sexual harassment.
AB 170 – Joint liability on a client employer for sexual harassment perpetrated by a temp or contract agency.
AB 171 – Rebuttable presumption that an adverse employment decision is being made because of a sexual harassment allegation has been filed.

Of the newly elected, will we find those that will listen to our position? The answer today is…we do not know. How will we find out? By showing up!!

Our lobbyist Mike Robson with Edelstein Gilbert Robson & Smith LLC leads the charge to gather information, present our position and when necessary debate the issues. Mike cannot do it alone, he needs our help and involvement.

You might ask, how can we few, the California Staffing Owners and Managers overcome the millions of dollars and professional paid staff who promote these bills that can detrimentally affect our industry and livelihood.

You need to get involved even if for only 2 days a year, Your Presence Matters!

Year after year, Mike Robson recounts interactions between California Staffing Owners and Legislators that have made a difference. Last year your CSP 2nd Vice President, Karen Rodriquez made such an impact on San Gabriel Valley Democratic Assembly Member, Blanca Rubio at our 2018 legislative day and follow-up visit the next day to her legislative office. This year Karen has someone who will at least listen to her point of view. If you can do what Karen did, get one legislator to be receptive to your point of view, we will make a difference.

Please reach out if you have further questions or wish to become involved in the ongoing process.
